This year Oregon DECA is in need of 150 business professionals to participate in evaluating our students' competency at the State Career Development Conference in Portland, February 22-23, 2010. Over 800 high school students from DECA chapters across the state will be competing in over 40 competitive events for the opportunity to attend the International Career Development Conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
If you are interested in serving as a judge or know of someone who would make an excellent judge, please check out our judge page for more information: www.oregondeca.org/judge. Thanks!
The Portland Winterhawks Hockey Club has teamed up with DECA in Oregon and Washington to bring to you a fun and educational event, along with a hockey game, just prior to SCDC.
“I was blown away by the organizations hospitality and feel this opportunity should be shared with the other DECA chapters. Crater DECA will be there!”
– Mike Rogan, Crater DECA
Congratulations on being the first in the
Western Region to reach 1,000 fans!
Check out the new official Oregon DECA Page on Facebook: www.facebook.com/oregondeca! We hope to create a network of Oregon DECA members, advisors, alumni, business partners, supporters and friends of CTE/CTSOs. In addition to our Twitter account, www.twitter.com/oregondeca, we will use these two tools to first communicate association updates.
Our goal is to be the second DECA state/provincial association to reach 1,000 fans, so please “Become a Fan” and invite others to do the same. We may not be are a large association, but we can be savvy networkers and marketers. Thank you in advance for your support.

SLDC Changes Its Name
The name of the Student Leadership Development Center (SLDC) has been changed to Oregon Career and Technical Student Organizations (Oregon CTSO), effective today, October 1, 2009. Oregon CTSO will continue to provide state leadership, support, and coordination for Oregon’s seven career and technical student organizations: AOFC, DECA, FBLA, FCCLA. FFA, HOSA, and SkillsUSA.
Last year, we engaged in activities to identify possible names and then solicited input from the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and Willamette Education Service District (WESD). The name that received the most support was Oregon CTSO. The decision was made to postpone the name change until this time, for two reasons. First, we wanted the change to coincide with the new contract between ODE and WESD. And secondly, we believed that making the change during the legislative session would add to the funding challenges that we were already facing.
The name change was made to more accurately reflect our emphasis on career and technical preparation and to clear up confusion between our organizations and others that focus more specifically on student leadership.
Sports Business Days 2009-2010
